Happy new year I punched a hole in the oil pan

01/02/2019

Everything was going great. Installed the oil pressure gauge. Pulled the distributor. Filled the bottom end with oil. Filled the oil filter and put that on. No leaks. Used a quarter inch socket and extension on the oil pump. Made 55 lbs with a weak drill and oil came all the way to the top out each rocker. Great! Then I see the little puddle of fresh oil, not big, but enough for me to notice. Then I see the bolt shaped dimple in the bottom corner of the oil pan, and its leaking! @$#&*?@×÷5@!!!! No way I would have seen that before I torqued down the pan.

I clearanced the pick-up but not the pump and a high volume pump requires and deeper much more expensive oil pan according to melling.

So now my choices order new pan or cleanance and weld this one or get a new regular volume pump.
